quick trip to Florida

The best thing about one of my sisters living in Florida is that it makes for a wonderful getaway! It’s a nice little trip to make when I’m craving some vacation time and warm weather. The other week, I spent about four days visiting with my sister, brother-in-law, niece, and two nephews. It was great to get to spend some one-on-one time with my niece and nephews, since normally when I see them there are a lot of other people to share them with :)

I flew in on Saturday afternoon and my sister picked me up from the airport. By the time we got to their house, it was time for dinner and then the kids went to bed. My sister then got me hooked on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and I refuse to say how many episodes we watched during my visit.

On Sunday morning, we went to church and then came back home for lunch and naps (for the kids…mostly). After nap time, we headed to the beach! There is truly nothing better to me than hopping out of the car to smell the ocean air for the first time on a vacation. After a couple of hours of playing in the waves, walking along the beach, and digging holes in the sand, we headed back for dinner and bedtime.

We got up before the sun on Monday in order to catch the sunrise at the beach. It was more than worth it! Afterwards, we grabbed some donuts at a local donut shop, Swillerbees. We then headed back home to get ready for the day. First, a doctor’s appointment for one of the kids, and then we headed to St. Augustine to walk around for a bit. The rest of the day was spent relaxing at their house.

On Tuesday, we got another early start in order to get to Disney’s Hollywood Studios as soon as it opened! Although we hit a couple of snags in our plans for the day (we may or may not have forgotten where we parked at one point…), it was still such a fun day. Some of my favorite rides are in this park (Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and Toy Story Mania), so I was glad to get all those in! Not to mention there are shows for both Beauty and the Beast and Frozen.

With my nephew, Lewis, on the Toy Story Mania ride. It broke down while we were on it, so we were sitting there for about 10 minutes and I had to keep a squirmy toddler occupied!

Wednesday morning I was up around 3 AM (that is 2 AM central time…it was a long day), to catch the Disney shuttle to the airport, since we stayed at one of the resorts. I flew from Orlando to New York and had a short layover before flying home to Milwaukee.

It was such a whirlwind trip and I have to admit that my suitcase is still not unpacked, but I’m so glad I made the trip! Sometimes a few days in the sunshine and out of your routine are all you need to feel refreshed.

xoxo
