sister, sister

To fully understand me, you must learn about my family. If you have a conversation with me that lasts more than five minutes, it's likely that I will mention my sisters at some point. Having five sisters was something I was proud of growing up and continues to be something that is very important to me today. I loved being a Rasmussen, probably because of what my sisters made it to mean. They are all intelligent, compassionate, ambitious, and beautiful women. To my benefit, people assume these are family traits. Lucky me!

People ask me a lot of questions when they find out I have five sisters. Here are the answers to the most common inquiries I get:

Do you have any brothers? No, all girls! Any twins? Nope!

How did your dad handle that?? With grace. I've never heard him complain about it. Although we all did dance growing up, we also loved sports so he hasn't been completely miserable!

Do you and your sisters fight a lot? Not really. When we were growing up, we naturally bickered at times. But now that we're older and aren't around each other 24/7, it has become more rare.

Do you have a favorite sister? This is like asking a parent to pick a favorite child, but is a question I have absolutely been asked in sincerity. The honest answer is that it depends on the day :) I've found that I'll talk to each of them about different things and will seek advice from each of them based on their personality, interests, and strengths.

Are you and your sisters close? Extremely. I pity anyone that is around us when we are all together. You can expect lots of laughter, ruthless and relentless teasing, inside jokes, and usually a choreographed dance. (I'm not even kidding about that last one).

The bottom line is that I have loved every second of being one of six! They are my forever #squad, complete with ridiculous group messages filled with memes. It has completely shaped who I am as a person. I think one of the biggest lessons I learned in childhood is to go with the flow. I am a naturally uptight, Type-A personality, but when you are part of a big family, you have no choice but to go along for the ride. I love having five role models to look up to, five cheerleaders to encourage me, and five best friends to go to for advice or just a good laugh. I don't know if you've caught on by now, but I adore my sisters!

In the next few weeks, I'll be featuring interviews with each of my sisters. They each have such different personalities, but I think you'll be able to see some of our similarities shine through!

How many siblings do you have? What do you love most about your family?
